Start/End: Kathmandu to Kathmandu

Duration: 20 days

Difficulty: Hard to Strenuous

Maximum Elevation: 4,870 m (Makalu Base Camp)

Best Time: October - November and March - April

Makalu Base Camp Trekking is one of the most challenging treks in the eastern part of Nepal through the remote and unfrequented trekking areas. This Trekking begins at Tumlingtar after 40 minutes scenic flight from Kathmandu, then heads up the Arun River valley to Seduwa and Num by crossing over Shipton La Pass at an elevation of 4210 meters, continues into the upper Barun valley, and obtains in Makalu Base Camp 5,250 m.
It provides stunning contrasts of high waterfalls cascading into deep gorges, craggy rocks rising from lush green forests, and colourful flowers blooming beneath white snow peaks. Long and unspoiled terrain makes this trek a classic in its features and rare species of animals. Over 3000 species of flowering plants, with orchid varieties, and 30 rhododendrons splash the hillsides with colour, and different species of birds and the endangered Clouded Leopard, lesser panda, and Moschus moschiferus inhabitants of the Makalu Barun park make your trip unforgettable.
